My personal addiction.

No, not drugs.
Journaling.
It's a debilitating, daily struggle.
I can't not write.
Sometimes - quite often, actually - I feel like the only person/thing I can say things to is a piece of paper.
Which isn't the best mindset to maintain throughout your life. But that's who I am.
I've found that if I don't write down everything that comes to mind and more, my thoughts swirl into such a mess inside my head that my life literally begins to fall apart.
I keep a personal journal, a quote journal, a scripture journal, and a question-a-day journal.
As well as this here blog.
It's entirely common to find me writing during the middle of english. or biology or yearbook or most any class for that matter.

But sometimes I realize it's a blessing that this comes so easily to me.
The prophet Spencer W. Kimball said this about journaling:

"Begin today and write in it your goings and your comings, your deeper thoughts, your achievements, and your failures, your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your testimonies. ... I promise you that if you will keep your journals and records, they will indeed be a source of great inspiration to your families, to your children, your grandchildren, and others, on through the generations. Each of us is important to those who are near and dear to us—and as our posterity read of our life’s experiences, they, too, will come to know and love us. And in that glorious day when our families are together in the eternities, we will already be acquainted."

I've realized recently that, whether consciously or not, I'm writing these journals with the intent of being read. I hope that someday the thousands of hours I've spent writing and recording will be appreciated by someone other than myself. If my granddaughter in the future reads through one of my journals, yeah, she'll think my obsession with One Direction was silly, she'll find my infatuation with a certain boy a bit strange, and she'll wonder why I sometimes put #s in front of my words. But maybe she'll find something that will help her in her own life. And I know that I've written enough of myself into those pages that, as President Spencer W. Kimball said, when we meet someday, we will already be acquainted.
